About Irene H. Wellman

Author and poet, Irene has been writing prose and poetry almost all her life. As the daughter of social anthropologists, Victor and Edie Turner, she has travelled extensively. She was born in England and came to the United States at the age of 15. After college she worked as a reference librarian and later became a reading specialist. She started writing her middle grade novel, The Secret World of Yondhaven, when her daughter, Rose, was eight but only published it 33 years later. It is a fantasy/adventure with an environmental theme dealing with the idea of a magical and beautiful world threatened by the pollution and evil forces of our own Earth.

Her debut book of poems, Into the Elements, published in September, 2024, is a result of a life-time of writing poetry. She has published many poems in journals and won prizes for poetry. Into the Elements, however, is a small collection of poems with a theme of the transformative impact of experiences of nature, as imbodied in the five natural elements, and the spiritual. Her next book, The Smooth Rocks by the River, will be a larger collection.
